Can you say delicious?! This IS a quintessential Oakland Bakery. This bakery has been around for decades and once went by the name of Neldam's Bakery up until about 10 years ago. Although this bakery has been around for quite some time, I'm JUUUUST now getting around to coming here. The verdict?! Absolutely SCRUMPTIOUS!!! Mm mm mmm! I dropped by to grab something sweet after having a bagel sandwich at Beauty's bagel down the street, and A Taste of Denmark gave me the exact amount of sugar and sweetness that I was craving for. First off, I don't see many bakeries these days that have so much interior space. This bakery is HUGE! Make sure you get a chance to make it down to BOTH ends of the store because they have lots to choose from! I didn't purchase any cakes from here, but this spot is known for their super creative and festive cakes. You can window shop all you want when it comes to those cakes, and they are absolutely stunning! They have a range of cakes on display that you can look at including wedding cakes, children's birthday cakes, and baby shower cakes. They make custom cakes too and will allow you to bring in your own picture/art work to mirror for custom designs. Aside from the cakes, they've practically got everything else under the damn son too! Cookies, pastries, pies, bread... y'all know I almost had a heart attack in there, right? Too many options for lil' ol' me. Like waaaaay too many, but too many is always better than not enough. I wanted something on the lighter side, so I opted for a strawberry cheese danish and a mini lemon meringue pie. Loved them both but that lemon meringue pie was EVEYTHING!!! Ev-er-y-thaaang!!! Fell in LOVE with the lemon meringue pie! Let's start with the meringue topping: Lightly torched with just the right amount of fluffiness. The lemon custard filling wasn't overly zesty but still maintained its' signature lemon taste and it was nice and creamy. The crust wasn't anything special but it did what it was supposed to do. I would definitely get the lemon meringue pie again in a heartbeat. The strawberry cheese danish was delightful as well! The pastry bread was soft and moist at regular room temperature and appeared to be freshly baked. The cream cheese and strawberry preserves were the perfect topping. I'd come back to have this for breakfast any day. I've read some previous reviews mentioning that they've received bad service from the associates here, but everyone that I encountered was super helpful and friendly. I told them that it was my first time there and they gave me different recommendations which I thought was really sweet. Really excited that I was finally able to grab some baked goodies from A Taste of Denmark. I'm waiting for the day that a special occasion comes up so that I can buy one of their beautiful cakes. Until then, I plan on making my way through their yummy pastry display.
First time having dessert from here. Amazing! I had the pineapple cake? Not sure of the name but it was absolutely delicious!!
Although our 25th Anniversary celebration was changed. It was a socially distant celebration🎉😷. We still ordered a cake. It was beautiful & delicious. Our family always ordered cakes from (Neldams). Thank you for years of tradition.
Not how it used to be. I used to come for their strawberry cheesecake. It was the best I had ever had. But just went here after a few years and it's not the same anymore. The Danish didn't taste fresh either. Sad and disappointed
Injust went in and spent $150 for a work meeting. Holy cow did I get a ton of items that looked gorgeous and tasty. The prices are really great and the variety is amazing. The taste? EVEN BETTER!
